Beyond Cross Stitch Level 4 Numbers 1-10

“Tudor Rose”
LEVEL 4 - 1 “FOUR SIDED PULLED STITCH & FOUR SIDED HEMSTITCH”

This Four Sided Pulled stitch is also known as Square Openwork Stitch or Four Sided Openwork Stitch and falls in the Pulled Thread Category of stitching. This stitch produces a variety of effects depending upon the amount of pull you give to the thread and the weight of the thread used.      You will find this stitch in Thea’s sampler designs such as Crimson Fire Sampler and Lilac Chatelaine Sampler.

“Evergreen”
LEVEL
4 - 2 “THREE SIDED PULLED STITCH & HEMSTITCH”

The Three Sided Pulled stitch is also known as Lace Stitch, Turkish Stitch and Bermuda Faggoting and produces a beautiful lacy triangular pattern. Thea used it in her“Heirloom Birth Sampler”.  To get the zig- zag effect of the Hemstitch, the bottom row is stitched in the ususal manner. Skip the first thread of the top row, then continue the same stitching sequence as the bottom row! You can find this design in Thea’s sampler”Rose Arbour”.

“Holly Hearts”
LEVEL
4 - 3 “DIAMOND EYELET PULLED STITCH & INTERLACED HEMSTITCH”

You work this eyelet in the shape of a Diamond, by plunging from the outside into the center of the stitch.. It is most effective if a thin fibre is used due to many stitches occupying the same area. For the interlaced Hemstitch, the exposed vertical fabric threads are twisted using a  thread that runs horizontally through the center of the open work. Thea used these stitches in Child of Spring.

“Christmas Floral”
LEVEL
4 - 4 “PULLED SATIN STITCH & HERRINGBONE HEMSTITCH”

Satin Stitches with a twist! The variations of possible pulled satin stitch patterns are endless and make this stitch very versatile. It is most effective if a thin fibre is used. The Herringbone stitch is a decorative addition to the Hemstitching area, the Herringbone Stitch  results in a beautiful pattern of threads. Thea has used these stitches   in Child of Spring Sampler and Crystal Waters Sampler.

“White and Gold”
LEVEL
4 - 5 “THREE SIDED EYELET STITCH & PLAIN HEMSTITCH”

This stitch produces a beautiful lacy circular  pattern of stitches and holes.  This stitch is most effective if a thin fibre is used. You will find this stitch in Thea’s Peaches and Cream Sampler.  The Hemstitch found in this design is the basic stitch used in most Hemstitching.  You will find this stitch  in Thea’s “Thoughts of You...” Sampler.

“Summer Roses”
LEVEL
4 - 6 “PINS PULLED STITCH & INTERLACED HEMSTITCH”

The “Pins” stitch is a simple pulled Satin Stitch.   The variations in possible patterns are endless. Use a thin fiber for best effect. The Double Interlaced Hemstitch gives a new twist to the regular hemstitch area with a thread that runs through the center of the open work. Thea used these in Child of Spring Sampler.

“Pansy Chain”
LEVEL
4 - 7 “ALGERIAN EYE PULLED STITCH & HEMSTITCH”

The Algerian Eye stitch forms a square  shape and creates a full lacey look. Each Algerian Eye Stitch always is worked from the outside to the common center hole. The Hemstitch  found in this design is the basic stitch used in Hemstitching.  You will find this stitch  in Thea’s sampler design “Thoughts of You...”

“Periwinkle”
LEVEL
4 - 8 “HONEYCOMB PULLED STITCH & HEMSTITCH”

The Honeycomb Pulled stitch has a geometric   feeling to it when stitched.  As the threads are pulled they form a soft and delicate honeycomb pattern. This stitch is most effective if the stitching thread matches the fabric being used.  The Hemstitch found in this design is the basic stitch used in Hemstitching.  You will find these  stitches   in Thea’s sampler designs Child of Spring and Silk Wysteria.

“Rose Trellis”
LEVEL
4 - 9 “PULLED REVERSE WAVE AND PINS STITCH & HEMSTITCH”

The Pulled Reverse Wave stitch can also be called the pulled Cable Stitch. Here, the Pins  Stitch outlines the pulled Reverse Wave. The combination is most effective if the stitching thread is  fine and matches the fabric. The basic Hemstitch found in this design is worked on both long sides of the open area so as to result in an effect like a horizontal ladder.  You will find these  stitches   in Thea’s sampler designs Pansy Sampler and  Heart to Heart.

“Heather”
LEVEL
4 - 10 “SINGLE CROSS EYELET PULLED STITCH & HEMSTITCH”

The Single Cross Eyelet Pulled Stitch is stitched in the same manner as the Algerian Eye Stitch except a fabric thread is left open in the center both horizontally and vertically.  This basic stitch is used often to gather vertical fabric threads.   In this design, you bunch four fabric threads together at once.  You will find these   stitches  in Thea’s sampler designs Silk Wysteria Sampler and Child of Spring.

Design area fpr each design: 42h x 42w (3.3” x 3.3”)
Cut fabric for models: at least 25ct Lugana 6" X 6"

FINISHING SUGGESTIONS: Ornament: cut two pieces of mat board about 1/8 larger than stitched design.  Glue quilt batting on each, let dry and trim.  Center the design over batting and anchor with straight pins. Clip curving corners, glue raw edges on back.  Repeat on other mat board using a fabric of your choice.  Glue both pieces wrong sides together and glue cording around outside edges to finish off. Sachet: fashion into pillow or bag and stuff with lavender or potpourri. Add ribbons to tie! Frame: use 4”x 4” frame opening. Greeting Card: apply a piece of iron-on interfacing to the back, trim the fabric to size and insert. Pincushion: use container, stuff,  glue design over top or form into pillow and stuff. Quilting: Since all 60 Beyond Cross Stitch designs are approximately the same square size. using these designs for a quilted wall hanging would look beautiful!  Use some Christmas fabric, and add some strips around the designs, and make all 30 Christmas designs into a quilted hanging or blanket for some Christmas cheer!   Work the other 30 into a wonderful floral quilt!, using different words for the first level.
