Victorian Nametag       Free Pattern

I designed this new Free "Victorian Nametag" for last year's Victorian Stitching Holiday and now we'd like to share it with all of you, so you can stitch it too! Many of last year's students will be wearing theirs to this year's Classes we hope! Those of you who are coming to our Victorian Stitching Holiday this coming September, can now stitch one up to wear to our classes as well!

Many embroidery guilds hold meetings every month, and we'd like you to enjoy stitching a new nametag to wear to your meetings!! A personal handmade nametag is also great to wear to Needlework Classes, Travel Tours or other continuing education Classes! Here are two colour versions, and the DMC equivalents are given for the main pink/green one! The two colourways below are for those of you who enjoy using silks! I love my navy blue and tan/gold one, as it matches several of my favorite outfits.. I really hope you'll substitute your favorite colours too! Happy Stitching!! :)

FINISHING INSTRUCTIONS AND OPTIONS: To finish off your nametag as shown in the sample, cut 2 pieces of acid free matboard the same size as your stitched piece. Use the Buttonhole Edge as your guide. Cut a rectangle piece of batting ½" smaller than first matboard and glue in the center of one piece. Next glue a piece that is larger than the matboard over the same piece and let dry. Trim the excess. Center the design over the padded matboard piece and pin in place. When you are satisfied that it is centered, trim the excess fabric to ½" and glue down with Tacky Brand Glue (gold bottle). For the back use a matching or contrasting fabric, cut to ½" larger than matboard, stretch over the second matboard, pin and glue in place. Glue the two pieces of matboard together and lay a few books on top to help it dry flat. Trim the nametag with ready-made cording, or make your own cording if desired. You can trim just the outer perimeter or add cording long enough to go over your head. Other options are: a) place a tassel at the lower center or along the sides or b) sew a clasp pin to the back. You could sew the clasp in place before gluing the backing fabric to the back matboard piece. There are many variations and options to finishing, so just enjoy and create your own unique nametag!
