A Smaller retreat for the Dedicated Stitcher

Thea's new VS Retreat format is set up a little differently from our previous Stitching Holidays. There is of course some structure to each weekend, but you are welcome to either stitch on the included surprise project, or bring another project to work on. You can stitch the entire time you attend, as the stitching room will be open from 9am-10pm, but you can also take breaks, go for a long walk, go shopping, or do other things that you enjoy! This promises to be a relaxing time for you, a time when you can steal away for a wee nap in the afternoon, or just keep stitching and chatting with us the whole weekend through.

There are two events scheduled for each VS Retreat. First, Thea will discuss any special techniques and hints in the morning of one of the stitching days, and Lisa will share her finishing tips and hints to give you confidence when your piece is finished. The second is a trip to Thea's studio where you can enjoy seeing the places where we work, and play! There will be goodies and shopping, as much fun for our returnees as for newbies, as Thea opens her home and studio to you as her guests. The rest of the time, Thea, Lisa and Cathy will be stitching with you in the classroom most of the time, sitting and chatting, answering any questions, and helping with the featured project and other various different projects you can bring to the class.

Here is the first progress picture of the special Gingerbread Stitching Cottage, still in design mode for the Fall 2008 VS Retreat! It's not quite finished yet, but when it is, you'll see the entire collection.  The roof comes off to become a needlebook, and there are a few Stitching Accessories inside! Doesn't it look delicious!?

The rest of weekend, you can choose to spend however you like..  walk along the inner harbour causeway, ride on our horse drawn buggies, or shop at our local needlework shops and quilting shops or the numerous tourist or antique shops that Victoria is known for. Victoria is filled with oodles of wonderful Catalogues, restaurants, and museums so that you are never at a loss for what to do during the retreat. We will be happy to reserve a tea at Murchie's or the Empress for willing participants (pay as you go). You may also want to stay longer, arriving before or leaving after our event. If you do, just email us, and we will help extend your holiday if we can share our group hotel rate to you for your entire stay.

We have kept the Harbour Towers as our base hotel, although we are already on the lookout for other more interesting smaller hotel/guest houses. We may change our venue if we find something more interesting !

Our New Smaller VS Retreat includes all the following:

- 3 nights hotel - Thursday/Friday/Saturday (Check out Sunday before  11am) (of course we can arrange extra nights for before or afterwards)
- two days of stitching & laughing in a cosy common room with elbow room for all.
- membership in a dedicated yahoo chat group to get to know your fellow stitchers ahead of time.
- entirely voluntary participation in a stitcher's gift exchange

- VS studio tour and tea..
- a full kit containing a new design by Thea
- an in depth overview of the featured design taught by Thea
- some special prizes and goodies of course.. we can't forget those! :)

There are TWO options for your registration: Double Occupancy and Single Occupancy. With the double occupancy price, you will share the room with another stitcher. If you don't already know a stitcher to share with, we will assign one to you. If you want to share with a certain registered stitcher, just let us know by email. You can decide you want to pay the entire amount at once, or you can opt for our 3 x payment plan as you can see on our payment page

VS Retreats email: LisaA@victoriasampler.com .

Our VS Retreats Registration is found in the Catalogue. Just click here to see your options and to register. There is a single payment for each option, and there is also a payment plan for each option. The payment amount will be charged twice more before the Retreat starts. We will contact you via email regarding the remaining payment dates and method of payment.

Stitching with Thea, Lisa and Cathy.

Thea has a warm and comfortable teaching style, and enjoys her students immensely. She encourages everyone to try new things and to relax while learning! Cathy Jean is our talented folk-art cross stitch designer, and will also be there stitching with you. Lisa has taught several finishing workshops over the years, and is our resident finishing guru. She will give you some easy finishing hints for the project Thea will design for this weekend!

If your husband, friend or relative wants to travel with you to this little bit of Olde England on the West Coast of Canada, you are of course welcome to bring them! Victoria is considered one of the 10 top cities in the world to visit. Your guest can enjoy Victoria and is welcome to stay with you in your 'single' room at no extra charge to you.

Living Free ... !

This is the last of a set of four wonderful designs that are based on a poem that’s become very important to me. It celebrates my idea of a life worth living. Stitched with gentle overdyed cottons and silks in soft shades, a little baby goat dances happily and full of life in the sunshine. ... more
