Details: Welcome to our
Tea Party! This lovely Tea Cosy design was created in the summer, a time when there
are so many beautiful flowers blooming in Victoria. I wanted to include a bit of
fantasy for fun and the result is a vine with ‘counted’ crewel work. I included
a lot of Cross Stitch too, so those of you who are feeling a bit crewel challenged
will feel very comfortable stitching the counted areas! The design shows two stitchers
sharing a cup of special tea in the garden of a white house. The birds are singing,
and the vine curls around the scene in true floral abundance, giving you that loving
warm feeling. Most of your learning time will be spent on the vine and floral motifs,
as they are there to challenge you to work some free form embroidery. However, there
is much guidance for those of you who want to count out the placement of each flower,
so don’t worry, you’ll do just fine! :) Our Lisa has done a wonderful job with the finishing, and has not only created a gorgeous lined Tea Cosy model for you, but
also finished the bonus design in this piece, a cup and saucer Teacup Pincushion!
We found our own striped lining fabric, and I'm sure you can find some to suit your
taste. This design will fit into any decor, and you can even enlarge it for a larger
teapot, by adding some curved strips of fabric around the outside of the design.
Just follow the simple directions at the back of these student notes to finish your stitching and make your own beautiful tea cosy. You can also frame this as a sampler for your wall, if you like! I hope you enjoy this special Tea Party design, and that you learn lots while visiting with old and new friends! :) - Thea
